Hi, I'm Ewan McDonald, a concert photographer based in West Sussex.
I thought I'd use this page to share a little about myself and how I got into photography.
Live performance has always fascinated me. I studied Theatre Technology in college, but my true passion has always been music. At the start of 2024, I attended the UK Beatboxing Championships in Bristol. Armed with nothing but enthusiasm, I captured 34GB of photos and videos, which sparked my desire to take this passion further. After consulting a colleague for camera advice, I eventually invested in a Sony A5100 with a 50mm lens.
My journey began with my friends in the Brighton-based punk band Antifa Supersoldier. At their next show, I brought my camera and started shooting. Those early days were all about experimenting—using auto settings, learning from both successes and mistakes, and figuring out what worked by analyzing the settings behind my favorite shots (like some I captured of Yonaka at Koko).
Throughout 2024, I honed my craft, diving deeper into the world of music photography. As I’ve gained experience, I've also started noticing aspects of the industry that could be improved. While I’ve learned the "rules," some feel outdated or counterintuitive. One day, I hope to help create a more accessible environment for aspiring photographers.
Now, as I’ve grown in confidence and skill, I’m taking my photography more seriously. Working with Adrenaline Magazine has been an incredible opportunity, providing access to shows and a supportive team. However, I’m eager to expand—to collaborate directly with bands and artists, and to work with additional publications, especially for larger events.
It’s been an exciting journey so far, and I’m thrilled to see where this path takes me next. See you in the pit—whether it's for a photo or the mosh!

Hey! That's me, ironically as a photographer I don't have a lot of photos of myself. So this one that my friend took on my camera
